GLOBETROTTERS: Mrs. Stanley’s entire 4th grade class had an amazing night full of fun with family and friends at the Globetrotters in Binghamton. They cheered, danced, laughed and marveled at the world-class athleticism and entertainment that the Globetrotters provided. Some of the students even stayed after the basketball game to go on the court and get autographs from the team! On the days leading up to the game, Mrs. Stanley’s class researched the current team and also read books about the history of the Globetrotters and the barriers that they had to overcome just to be able to play basketball. We’d like to thank 98.1 WHWK The Hawk for this special opportunity!

HISTORY: It may be a sunny and dry February day today, but did you know that in 1945, a Whitney Point Bus was finishing its afternoon run. The bus got stuck in a bitter, violent snowstorm in the drifted snow. There was no telephone to let the school known they were stuck. The Town of Barker sent a snowplow to look for them, but the drifts were so bad, the plow could not break through. No one was harmed, but everyone was forced to stay at a nearby farm home overnight. The next day, a plane was sent out to search for the school bus and found it two and a half miles north of Nanticoke on Center Lisle Road.

The Care Closet at Whitney Point has hygiene items- deodorant, toothpaste, hair products etc. and then we also have dresses for dances, and clothing available for anyone that needs. Students can access the Care Closet by stopping into room #134 in the HS on M, W, F or by emailing us confidentially at- wpcarecloset@wpcsd.org to set up a time to come in. We are also open to taking donations!

Earlier this month, WPHS brought in Drug Free Communities and Reality Check- both agencies from Broome County, to present to the Freshman Academy on the harm of vaping. The guest speakers did an activity on harmful ingredients and then we had a student from Binghamton University speak on her experience with vaping addiction and quitting.
