Dr. Glenn Tymeson had a vision of becoming a rural doctor with a family practice.  He graduated from Colgate University and Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia.  A specialty in family practice didn't exist at the time so Dr. Tymeson did a year's residency in surgery, a year in anesthesiology, and a year in internal medicine to gain the knowledge and experience he thought would be necessary.  In 1948 he opened his practice in Lisle, New York and he served the community for 36 years.  He was an asset to the community and the medical profession.

Marie Scott was a life-long resident of the Village of Whitney Point. She graduated from the Whitney Point Academy in 1935. She received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the State University at Albany and returned to Whitney Point to begin her teaching career in 1940 as a high school social studies teacher. She was also a member of the New York State and National Councils of the Social Studies. Marie participated in the development and writing of social studies and history regents exams for the New York State Education Department. Marie retired from the Whitney Point Central School District after 39 years of service in 1979. In her retirement from teaching, Marie continued to serve the district as a member of the Board of Education. Her influence on several generations of students was great.

Karen (Ames) Dunham-Hand was a life-long resident of the Whitney Point Central School District, was a member of the graduating class of 1973.  Karen served her community for over 20 years as Captain of the Lisle Fire Company Emergency Squad and EMS First Response Team, Chief of the Broome Volunteer Ambulance Squad, Deputy EMS Coordinator with the Broome County Office of Emergency Services, member of the Southern Tier Critical Incident Stress Management Team, member of the EMS Advisory Board and 911 dispatcher.  Her life was filled with exceptional community service and commitment to others.

Gerald (Jerry) Mackey began his career in education as a teacher and coach with the Whitney Point Central School District in September 1969.  During his tenure with the district he taught Social Studies, English, and GED classes and continues to be a substitute teacher for the district.  Jerry was most noted for his involvement with the athletic program in the District.  He  had a significant impact on the hundreds of student athletes he coached.  In 1988 Jerry assumed the responsibilities of Athletic Director for the District.  Jerry is an active member of the community.  In 1986, he became the Mayor of the Village of Lisle, a position he continues to hold.  Jerry retired from the Whitney Point Central School District in June 2002.  Jerry has been a loyal and dedicated Whitney Point teacher, coach, Athletic Director, and community member.

Kim (Zeiter) Downs is a 1972 graduate of the Whitney Point Central School District.  It has been a great benefit to the community that Kim has chosen to remain in her home town to raise her family, establish a professional career as a remarkable early childhood educator, and so much more.  She joined the Whitney Point Preschool in 1989 as the director of the new daycare program.  She has been relentless in searching for sources of grant funds to support the Whitney Point Preschool/Daycare.  Kim is also an active member and volunteer in the community.  Kim leads by example.  Her passion for helping each child and person grow to become a positive member of the community, and for contributing to the community, is an inspiration for all of us.

John "Coach" Halloran came to the Whitney Point Central School District in 1951 and retired in 1994.  In his 42 years with the district, Coach taught physical education and coached multiple sports.  While teaching in Whitney Point, Coach also served as the Athletic Director for 32 years and worked to build many of the athletic programs available to students today.  He coached 16 seasons of football, 42 seasons of basketball and 37 seasons of track and field.  He is held in high esteem by the many who credit him for preparing them to be successful in all areas of life by teaching the lifelong values of teamwork, a strong work ethic and discipline.

Gladys (Ellerson) Piech graduated from the Whitney Point Central School District in 1945.  She pursued studies in Physical Education and Health at the State University College at Cortland.  Gladys returned to the Whitney Point School District where she taught physical education and coached.  During her tenure as a teacher she inspired young girls to try out for and play many sports.  Gladys championed for a meaningful physical education curriculum for both boys and girls.  She retired after 31 years of teaching in 1984.  Upon her retirement, Gladys continued to serve the Whitney Point Central School District as an elected member of the Board of Education for 13 years.  Throughout much of her teaching career, Gladys was also involved with young people through 4-H.  As a local and county leader, Gladys was able to serve and reach more young people and have an increased influence on the welfare of the children and their familites in the community.

Gerald "Jerry" Whitehead graduated from the Whitney Point Central School District in 1966 and attended the State University College at Cortland to earn his teaching credential.  Upon graduating from college, Jerry returned to the Whitney Point Central School District as an elementary school teacher.  He retired after 33 years of teaching.  Jerry is a life-long resident of Whitney Point and balanced his teaching career with active political involvement in village matters.  After a number of years as Village Trustee, Jerry became the Mayor of Whitney Point, a position he held for 16 years.  He is retired from village government but remains active in the community.  He is a vital member of the Greater Whitney Point Community Planning Committee and is currently working with others to create the Whitney Point Historical Society.

Colonel Scott Zegler (Retired) was a member of the 1979 graduating class of the Whitney Point Central School District.  During his senior year he received an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point.  He retired from a distinguished military career in 2009.  Scott serves as a role model and has inspired many youth.  Perhaps his highest honor of all is that his son Donald chose to follow in his father's footsteps and will be commissioned in the United States Army and will continue the Zegler legacy of selfless service to our country.  Scott's level of achievement and service to our country highlights his personal commitment.  His service in the armed forces has made our country a safer place and our community, school, and alumni look to him with great thanks and pride.

"Doc" graduated from the Whitney Point Central School District in 1961 as valedictorian of his class. He went on to study pre-med at Johns Hopkins University, and earned his M.D. from SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse in 1969.  He completed an internship in medicine and pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin, and served his residency at the U.S. Public Health Service Indian Hospital in Gallup, New Mexico from 1970-1972.  At that time he returned to Whitney Point and worked alongside Dr. Glenn Tymeson and Dr. John Prindle in Lisle.  He received board certification in Family Practice in 1975.  Thereafter, he opened Lisle Medical Arts where he has continued to serve the community for over forty years.  He is also an attending physician at United Health Services Hospitals in the Department of Family Medicine.

Marv and Alice Gregg, owners of Gregg's Sure Fine Market are long time residents of Whitney Point. Marv grew up in Johnson City. His father died when he was only 17 and Marv helped support his family by working many part-time jobs, including several in grocery stores. Alice's family, originally from New York City, moved to a farm in Afton shortly after she was born. Marv and Alice met while working at Wilson and Company, a meat packing plant. They were married in 1954.

Chad Orzel graduated from the Whitney Point Central School District in 1989 as valedictorian of his class. He went on to study physics at Williams College in Massachusetts, and earned his Ph. D. in Chemical Physics from the University of Maryland, College Park under Nobel Laureate William Daniel Phillips. Chad is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Union College where he teaches and researches atomic physics and quantum optics.

Barb Quarella began working for the Whitney Point Central School District in January of 1968.  She completed coursework at Tompkins Cortland Community College and received her Teaching Assistant certification from the New York State Education Department.  She served as the District's swim instructor for twenty-eight and a half years.  Barb had the unique experience of working with each student in the District every year they were in school.  She got to watch them grow up.  Because of the relationships built over time, many students looked to Barb as a friend or sounding board when they were troubled or uncertain about events in their life.

Iva Jean Tennant is a 1966 graduate of the Whitney Point Central School District. She has been teaching mathematics for 27 years, and is currently teaching at West Middle School in the Binghamton City School District. School administration affirms that the test scores of Iva Jean's 7th grade students are, year after year, outstanding as a result of her highly effective teaching methods.

Michael is a 1972 graduate from the Whitney Point Central School District. He earned an Associate's Degree in Marketing Sciences from Broome Community College, and went on to take Real Estate and Urban Development Classes at Syracuse University. Michael is a graduate of the Kellogg Leadership Program at Binghamton University, and LEAD NY, a two year program to study the Empire State Agriculture and Food Industry, sanctioned by Cornell University.

Lanny graduated from the Whitney Point Central School District in 1954. He remained in the area and owned a dairy farming operation for many years. Dairy herds are often plagued with mastitis, an inflammation of the mammary gland and udder tissue, which causes much frustration and expense for a farmer. It can be caused by bacteria or the result of chemical, mechanical, or thermal injury to the cow's udder. After years of dealing with mastitis, Lanny began looking for a solution. He realized it was the way the milking machine worked that was causing the problem. He discovered that all machine milking systems had no true rest phase and it was the constant suction of the end of the teat causing the damage and incomplete milk-out of the cows which led to mastitis.

William (Bill) graduated with the class of 1979 from the Whitney Point Central School District. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics from the School of Applied and Engineering Physics at Cornell University. He went to work for BAE Systems as the lead design engineer for commercial aircraft engine controls, a position he still holds today. While working, he continued his education at Syracuse University, earning Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.

John began his career with the Whitney Point Central School District in 1969. He taught high school Regents social studies including Global Studies to ninth and tenth grade students, and Government and Economics to seniors. John's passion for his content revealed itself in a dramatic teaching style. He worked tirelessly to make sure his students learned and grew to appreciate social studies. John also worked with students as a coach and class advisor. John was involved in the development of curriculum guides, as well as, Regents and Competency exams for Social Studies through the State Education Department.

Dr. Storrs graduated from the Whitney Point Central School District in 1955. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Lawrence University and his M.D. from Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse in 1963. He remained at Upstate Medical to continue his training which included an internship in Mixed Medicine and Surgery, two years as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Neurological Surgery, a three-year clinical residency in Neurological Surgery and a one year residency in General Surgery.

Les came to Whitney Point fresh out of college in the fall of 1970. For the next 33 years she worked as a Physical Education teacher bringing fitness and other health-related skills to life for over 1,800 students. She held herself to high professional standards and expected nothing less from her students. Her goal was to have each student leave school with a well-rounded education, the confidence, and sense of responsibility to be successful.

John Glezen graduated from the Whitney Point Central School District in 1954 as valedictorian of his class.  Sports, basketball in particular, played an important role in John's life. John went on to study at Hamilton College, class of 1958. While at Hamilton College he was co-captain of the basketball team for two years, high scorer and leading rebounder for three years and the first 1000 point scorer in the school's history. He then studied at Yale Law School, class of 1961. His entire professional career was spent with the law firm of Day, Berry & Howard (now known as Day Pitney, LLP) headquartered in Hartford, CT, Connecticut's largest firm. John was a member of the Real Estate Section of the Connecticut Bar Association and was recognized as one of Connecticut's "Best Real Estate Attorney's" by a statewide publication.

Close your eyes and imagine if you will that very familiar "Hello young lady!" or "Hello young man!". That was the greeting you would always receive when Mr. Minacci saw you passing his path. You would also notice the tie he wore. Years after any contact with him you would still think of those ties. Paul contracted polio at age 5 and spent a year at a children's hospital in Newington, Connecticut. However, the effects of polio didn't keep him down.  In 1949, he graduated from Housatonic Valley Regional High School in the North Canaan, Connecticut school system. Paul was the first in his family to go to college.  He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Springfield College, Springfield, Massachusetts in 1956 and a Master of Science degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia in 1961.

Tressa Smith graduated from Whitney Point Central High School in 1983. She received a degree in computer technologies from Broome Community College. She has been an employee of Greene's Ace Hardware Center, Whitney Point for seventeen years.Tressa's community involvement includes having volunteered with Habitat for Humanity in Broome County from 1996 to 2002, serving on their Board of Directors from 2000 to 2002. Additionally, as part of the "Little Free Libraries Program", in honor of Doris Lamb, Tressa built and erected a "Little Library" located at the Marie Lynch Memorial Park in the Village of Lisle. Through her efforts, a basketball court was built at the park. She organized a group that maintains, cleans, and paints the pool/park area.

Maud Tillotson born September 19, 1925. At the time of her death she was survived by her husband of 57 years, Gerald Tillotson. Together they had 9 children, 24 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She graduated from the Whitney Point Central School District in 1941 at the age of 15 after having attended the Wattles District School on Hunts Corners Rd in the Town of Lisle.  In 1942, she was hired as a secretary at the Rittenburg Garage in Whitney Point. While she worked there, she went to Defense School at night to learn how to contribute to the efforts to win World War II. In the fall of 1942, she moved to Johnson City to become a "Rosie the Riveter" first at Link Aviation and then IBM. Additionally, she attended business classes at Ridley-Lowell Business School.

Henry M Baldwin was born February 14, 1905. He was a lifelong resident of Nanticoke where he was raised on a farm which had been in the family since 1793.  Henry graduated from Whitney Point High School as valedictorian and president of his class in 1922. He attended colleges at Oneonta, Syracuse and Cortland State Normal School. Henry started his teaching career in the fall of 1922, just a few short months after graduating from high school. He taught in the one-room school houses of Lisle District No. 3 and Nanticoke District No. 5. Henry served as principal of Lisle school before all of the area students attended the newly centralized district. He taught math and science in the consolidated schools of Whitney Point, served as Dean of Students for the Junior High boys, and was their first baseball coach. Henry left the Whitney Point Central School District in 1945.

Thomas Ellerson graduated from the Whitney Point Central School District in 1974. He earned an Associates Degree in Physical Education from Herkimer Community College and went on to attend Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania. He returned to the Triple Cities area in 1981 to become a computer operator for United Health Services (UHS). His interest in technology prompted further coursework at SUNY Broome Community College and Rochester Institute of Technology. In 1988 he went to work for Lourdes Hospital as a computer programmer. He became a manager in the Information Technology (IT) department, and was promoted to IT Director in 2000. Tom is currently the Chief Information Officer (CIO) of Ascension Health at Lourdes Hospital. He is responsible for the entire IT department including applications, technology infrastructure, and the telephone system.

Janet Hopkins graduated from the Whitney Point Central District in 1977. Her love of music led her to SUNY Potsdam where she earned a Bachelor degree in Music Education, cum laude,  and a Masters degree in Vocal Performance, with Distinction.Janet went to New York and became a principal soprano soloist with the Metropolitan Opera from 1991-2007.  In addition to extensive touring with the Met Janet, has performed throughout the United States, Europe, and Japan. She sings in Russian, Czech, French, Italian, German, English, Latin, and Spanish, and speaks several of those languages as well. She has co-starred with vocal greats such as Placido Domingo, Luciano Pavarotti, and Renee Fleming.

Kathleen (Halloran) Jaros graduated from the Whitney Point Central School District in 1975. She attended the CS Wilson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing.   Wilson Memorial Hospital (WMH) hired Kathy to work as a Nursing Assistant in July of 1976 while attending nursing school. In 1978 Kathy graduated from the CS Wilson Hospital School of Nursing. She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Alfred University in 1991, and a Master of Science in Nursing from Binghamton University in 2001, earning her the title of Family Nurse Practitioner. In addition to these degrees, Kathy holds many specific healthcare certifications.

William C. "Bill" Emerson graduated from Whitney Point High School in 1981.  He continued his education at Penn State earning a bachelor's degree in business.  Bill Joined Quicken Loans in 1993 as a mortgage banker.  His passion for learning and growing, as well as his commitment to taking care of clients, helped him take on many roles at the company.  In 2002, Bill was named CEO.  During his tenure the company grew from approximately 500 team members to 16,000.  He pioneered the "Mortgage-In-A-Box" concept which allowd a mortgage to be completed via telephone and mail as opposed to needing to go to a branch office or bank.

Alesha L. Widdall graduated from Whitney Point High School in 2008.  Her field hockey career began as a modified player in 2003.  Alesha attended the University of Massachusetts where she earned a bachelor's degree in Anthropology with minors in Classics and French.  During her four years at UMass, Alesha continued to dominate the goal.  She was named as an NFHCA All-American for two years and the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year in 2011.  In addition to Alesha's exceptional athletic ability, she also excelled in the classroom.  During her time at UMass, she was named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad all four years, was a member of the All-Academic Team for 2009-2011.  In 2010 she was the A10 Student Athlete of the year.  In 2012 she was named to the senior USA Women's National Field Hockey Team.

Mark Brush graduated from the Whitney Point Central District in 1991. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University and a PhD in Oceanography from the University of Rhode Island. Mark identifies himself as a coastal systems ecologist and modeler. Mark is committed to public outreach education and community service. He participated in the NASA Simulation-Based Engineering and Science Teacher Professional Development Program at NASA Langley Research Center , working with two groups of Virginia teachers to develop STEM lesson plans on topics related to marine science, to show their students how math and science concepts apply to the Chesapeake Bay. He has mentored a number of high school seniors with their research projects and taught after school programs on oceanography.   He has served on church committees, coached youth hockey and is currently a youth soccer coach.

 Adam Downs is a 1997 graduate of the Whitney Point Central School District.  He went on to earn degrees from Keystone College, Cornell University, Pace University School of Law, and has completed executive management studies through the Harvard Business School.   Adam is a Director and Counsel for Fluor Corporation, a global engineering and construction company. He is an Officer of Tappan Zee Constructors, LLC and manages the $3.14 billion contract for the design and construction of the new Tappan Zee Bridge (officially named the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge), connecting New York’s Westchester and Rockland Counties.  The project involves designing and building two parallel three mile long cable-stayed bridges across the Hudson River, providing a design that allows for future suspended rail service between the bridges, and demolishing the old Tappan Zee Bridge. It is one of the largest infrastructure projects in the United States and the new bridges are the largest in New York’s history. Adam’s responsibilities include facilitating compliance with the 9,000+ page design-build agreement and overseeing the project’s legal and contracting operations.

Charles Leahy moved to Whitney Point as a young man in the mid 1930’s to help his parents run a farm on the Whitney Point to Upper Lisle Road.  At that time he had already graduated from the State School of Agriculture at Delhi.  He immediately became involved in Broome County4-H and leader of the Excelsior 4-H Club of Whitney Point.  He entered the State Veterinary College at Cornell, and graduated qualifying as a veterinary in 1942.    In 1943 Charlie married Nancy Jean Planck.  They set up both a household and veterinary practice on Collins Street.  The property had a small barn, pasture, and a root cellar, all features that would prove useful to Charlie’s endless succession of side interests and projects in the decades to come.   It became the home of nine children, chickens, a milk cow, sheep, goats, and a few horses and ponies.  From this home base Charlie became known as “Doc” Leahy.  His veterinary practice was mostly large animal, but office and surgery hours were held for small pet owners.   The house and business shared one phone which started ringing at 6:00 in the morning, and didn’t stop all day.

Nancy grew up on the west side of Binghamton and graduated from Binghamton Central High School in 1941.  She worked briefly in Phil’s Gift Shop and the parts department at IBM.  She left the paid workforce to provide homecare for her ailing father.  She married Charlie in 1943 and moved into their Collins Street home in Whitney Point.  While Charlie was busy with his veterinary practice Nancy was busy too.  She raised nine children, kept house, prepared meals, assisted during small animal office hours and surgery, handled the books, billing, and bills, and fielded constant phone calls.  Ann (Leahy) Van Orman remembers, “Mom was the commander in chief of doling out jobs and instilling values.  Values that made us good citizens: don’t take anything that isn’t yours, tell the truth, many hands make light work, be responsible for your own stuff, and DO NOT LITTER.”

Carol Eaton was valedictorian of the Whitney Point Central School District graduating class of 1960. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and Education from SUNY Albany, a Masters degree in Government and Human Relations from Ohio State University, and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Boston University.  Carol spent much of her educational career in Massachusetts.   Carol’s career in education began in the classroom, where it also ended. Upon retiring from Whitney Point she went on to teach at Binghamton University where she supervised administrative interns and taught Education Law and School Finance.

John “Jack” Prindle, better known as “Doc”, came to Whitney Point in 1967 to join Dr. Tymeson in family practice. Soon after, he left to serve a year in Vietnam. There he learned trauma care and treated civilians through a Medical Civic Assistance Program, gaining skills that would serve him well throughout his career.  He returned to Whitney Point where he and his wife, Mary Lou, raised their four children and “Doc” cared for community members until his retirement in 2008.  During his tenure as a physician in Whitney Point “Doc” was truly a community doctor. He was available day or night to help a person in need whether to deliver a baby or comfort family members who had just lost a loved one. His treatment extended beyond the office walls. House calls, sidewalk consultations, impromptu exam and treatment settings, including his kitchen table were not uncommon. Treatments often ended with a lot of storytelling and laughter.

Elaine (Welsh) Sinclair graduated from the Whitney Point Central School District in 1979. Her leadership and organizational skills benefit the many community groups she’s worked with, touching and enriching the lives of countless people.  She is active with the Whiney Point United Methodist Church where she sings in the choir, plays the flute, and has held many leadership roles. She currently leads the Mission Team and has helped the church reach out in new and meaningful ways to support our community. She organizes fundraisers and can be seen working at the free community dinners and other church functions.  Elaine has been an important part of the Whitney Point School Community Productions. She serves as the business manager for the group.

Eloise M. Wescott is a graduate of Whitney Point Central Schools: a member of the Class of 1971. While she enjoyed the opportunity to travel and experience other places and cultures after her graduation, she credits growing up in the Whitney Point community for the values she lives by today. She is employed as a sales representative for the Globe Bag Company. She started for the company as the manager of their local factory. When the company closed the factory, they asked her to remain with them as a sales representative. She has now worked for them for 40 years. Over the years she has routinely been involved in the leadership of our community. She was a charter member of the Whitney Point area Jaycees/Jayncees and held several offices including that of president. She has also been active in and held offices in the local Girl Scouts, the Eastern Stars, the Whitney Point Rotary, and the American Legion Post 974 Auxiliary. She actively supports the Northern Broome Senior Center with both her time and with fundraising activities.
