The Section IV Interscholastic Athletic Conference hosted a Character Counts Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, June 7th. The IAC League is comprised of nineteen member schools and two student athletes from each district were honored as Character Counts award recipients.  These student athletes were celebrated for their character qualities such as kindness, respectfulness, optimistic, empathetic, self-disciplined, hard-working, focused, and reliable.  The senior student athletes from Whitney Point that were recognized were Grace Russell and Wyatt Quail. 

 Grace Russell (12)

Field Hockey, Lacrosse

Grace has been a member of the girls’ varsity lacrosse and field hockey teams her entire high school career. Her defensive leadership position on the field has helped the field hockey team win Section IV, Regional and State Class C Titles and the lacrosse team win Section IV Titles. Academically, Grace has been on the high honor roll and honor roll. She is also a member of the World Language Club and Community Service Club. During her junior and senior years Grace has been the President of the Pep Club leading the student body at athletic events to have positive sportsmanship. Outside of school she has worked at Greek Peak and at Mountain Top. After graduation Grace is going to attend SUNY Broome Community College studying to become a dental hygienist. Grace's coaches and teammates describe her as being helpful, outgoing and hardworking.

 

Wyatt Quail (12)

Soccer, Indoor Track & Field, Track & Field

Wyatt participated on the Boys Varsity Soccer, Varsity Indoor Track & Field, and Outdoor Track & Field Teams. Wyatt sets personal goals for himself and focuses on improvement each day of practices and at athletic contests. Wyatt is also a member of the Drama Club, Jazz Band, and Select Chorus. Academically he has participated and been honored at Audio Production Skills USA. Outside of school Wyatt works at the Binghamton Rumble Ponies as a cameraman. His coaches and teammates describe Wyatt as inspirational, honorable and artistic. He is outgoing, a friend to all and has excellent sportsmanship. Wyatt plans to attend SUNY Broome Community College to study Visual Communication.
