The Whitney Point Community Schools program partnered with Dr. Obi Atkinson of SUNY Cortland and his students studying Physical Education to offer an after-school sports opportunity for students at Caryl E. Adams.
Our second and third graders were able to participate in six weeks of small-group instruction and organized skill sets. The students had fun learning how to play football, golf and frisbee, both inside and outside. Patiently guiding them through this program were SUNY Cortland Physical Education students Michelle Chiaramonte, Alison DiPietro, Ashley Klees, Connell O'Neill, Kiera Rahner, Pedro Rodriguez, Blake Ross and Ryan Watrous.
Mini lessons built into the overall sports program helped our CEA students practice self-control, effort, teamwork and social responsibility. We are very grateful to our partners at SUNY Cortland, and we look forward to more opportunities for enrichment.
