Back to School Frequently Asked Questions - We answer questions you have about the C E A

Q: How does my child know where their class is on the first day of school?

A: Families & caregivers will say goodbye to their students at the main entrance-- but don’t worry, here’s what happens next! Staff greet students (car or bus arrivals!) outside the building and throughout the front lobby. They walk students to their class! You can visit your child’s classroom with them on our “Welcome Back Night”/Meet & Greet before the first day to see exactly where they go! You can visit their class at family events throughout the school year!

Q: What should my child wear to school?

A: Whatever they are comfortable in that allows them to be active and is appropriate for the weather! Students attend PE and outdoor recess daily!

Q: How does my child get meals?

A: Breakfast and lunch are served daily-- FREE for all students!

Students have a variety of choices each day at both meals, and the full menu is available on our website.

Q: Can I send a lunch AND have my child order a lunch?

A: YES! There are a number of options for students, many of which could be saved for a snack later on. This also allows your child to receive milk, fresh fruits & vegetables, or try new foods without the risk of being hungry!

Q: Can I send a snack?

A: Yes, you can! Your child’s teacher will likely communicate more about this. But an easy-to-access snack is great for students to have on hand.

Q: How do I contact my child’s teacher?

A: Our teachers use the REMIND app. You can download this and your child’s teacher will send home directions on how to join their class. We also use this for building-wide reminders and announcements!

Q: If I use the REMIND app, can other people see what I write to the teacher?

A: Nope! REMIND allows for direct messaging between you and the teacher, as well as one-way communication from the teacher to all families (reminders, newsletters, etc.)

Q: When does school start? When does it end?

A: The school day begins at 8:50am. Buses & cars begin unloading at 8:15 am to allow students to eat breakfast.

Dismissal is from 3:15-3:30 pm. Depending on the length of your bus route, arrival times to home will vary.

Q: Who do I call if my child is going to be late or needs to be picked up early?

A: The main office! You can reach Mrs. Barrows or Mrs. Friedman after 7:45 am607-692-8241, option 4

Q: Who do I call if my child is going to be absent?

A: The health office! You can reach our nurses after 8 am 607-692-8241 option 1

Q: Is it a big deal if my child is absent?

A: We know it happens--major illness can keep kids away from school. Don’t worry, we will work to get your child caught up on any missed instruction when they are too ill to attend school. When a child is well enough to attend, it is important that they are here! Missed instructional time can add up quickly. We want to see our students every day that we possibly can!
