Letter to Families and Staff June 14 2023

June 14, 2023

Dear Whitney Point School Families and Staff,
I write today again, with deep sadness, to follow up on the devastating information we received yesterday regarding the loss of two members of our school community. As we allow law enforcement to conduct their investigative work, we respect the privacy of those involved by not speculating on the details of what has unfolded.
This news has left our close-knit community in shock and grief-stricken. Our thoughts and condolences are with those impacted as they navigate through this unimaginable tragedy involving a student and an employee in our school district. During these challenging times, it is vital that we come together to support and comfort one another.
Crisis response teams have met and are continually planning at the school district and school building levels. To assist those in need of emotional support, our district’s own team of mental health professionals and those from the regional trauma response support team are available to provide assistance to students and staff members who require support during this difficult period.
Resources for help in talking to children about death, links to mental health support services and contact information for all counselors, social workers and school psychologists in our school district are at the link below.

This news may evoke a range of emotions within our community, but we are supporting each other with understanding and empathy.
Please let us know if you or your child need specific assistance or support.
Sincerely,
Jo-Ann Sexton, Superintendent
