County Executive declares 'Whitney Point Field Hockey Day' in Broome County

Broome County Executive Jason Garnar stopped by Whitney Point High School on Tuesday, Nov. 16, to declare the day “Whitney Point Field Hockey Day” in Broome County. Garnar presented the team with a banner with the proclamation and said it is the biggest proclamation the county has ever made to a school in Broome County.
“You guys have built a program where like that is the expectation. The expectation is you’re going to win a State Championship and anything less is unsatisfactory.” Garnar said to the team. “And that’s a testament to of course you all, and to your parents for taking you to a lot of travel, tournaments and spending a lot of time and certainly to your coach – who guided you to this. And so, on behalf of Broome County, we just want to say ‘congratulations.’ What an awesome achievement. Keep it up next year. We’re just really proud of you.”

The proclamation comes after the team’s NYSPHSAA Class C Championship win, which marks the school’s seventh State Championship win (sixth under coach Nicole Huston). Garnar gave the team the proclamation in the high school’s auditorium and signed the banner to make it official.
The team returned home from the NYSPHSAA championship at Centereach High School Sunday evening, defeating Pierson in the semifinals and Hoosick Falls in the finals. Their return to Whitney Point was met with a firetruck escort. On Monday, they celebrated with a parade through the high school.

“So today, we are officially declaring it Whitney Point Field Hockey Day in Broome County,” Garnar said. “Congratulations, ladies.”
