WP 8th Graders earn Honorable Mention certificates in statewide essay contest
A statewide essay contest recently was announced in which eighth graders could address the topic, “If I Were Mayor, I Would…” Over thirty eighth graders from the TRA expressed an interest immediately, and many attended an after-school question-and-answer session with Mayor Reynolds to learn what mayors’ jobs consist of.

Two eighth grade students, Joseph Burkee and Caitlyn Messina, submitted their final draft entries to the New York State Conference of Mayors and Municipal Officials in Albany. Although they weren’t among the three statewide winners, they did earn Honorable Mention certificates since they advanced to the final round of judging (this level of distinction is above the Certificate of Participation that most students from across the state earned for their entries). Congratulations to Joseph and Caitlyn!
