Students visit Lockheed Martin to celebrate Engineering Day
On April 28, a few of our eighth-grade students visited Lockheed Martin to celebrate Engineering Day. The students had the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities including building a self-driving car, putting together all the parts of a 3D printed hand and writing code that controlled the movements of a robot. They also competed against students from other districts in developing and building an egg drop container and a spaghetti bridge that was tested using the earthquake simulator. The highlights for most of the students was the chance to take the controls to see what it is like to prepare for becoming a pilot and visiting the hanger to see firsthand how much the engineers at Lockheed Martin put into each of the helicopters that they build. The event allowed for the students to see a variety of different opportunities available within the engineering and science fields right here in our area.
