INSTRUCTIONAL
Community School Coordinator
Qualifications included:
• Bachelor degree required.
• Masters in social work, school counseling, education, public administration, or related fields preferred.
• Two years of post-graduate experience preferred.
• Experience working with or in schools preferred, but is not required.
Community School Coordinators work within assigned schools to develop and implement the community school model. Although specific duties are defined by the needs of the school in which a coordinator serves, duties include:
• Leadership:
o Work with school administration to develop and implement the community school approach.
o Serve on and/or facilitate assigned school teams representing community school concepts.
o Provide leadership around tabling and participation in presentations as needed to promote the community school model.
o Facilitate focus groups of administrators, teachers, school staff, parents, and students identifying areas of strength and challenges within the school.
o Develop and document an inventory that outlines resources and gaps in service and ways in which the community school model will address these areas.
• Development of Partnerships:
o Utilize data from the needs assessment to recruit and organize partnerships that promote coherence without duplication of services.
o Attend community meetings as deemed necessary to represent Whitney Point Community Schools.
• Family Engagement:
o Direct family engagement and involvement in collaboration with school staff and administration.
o Develop opportunities to allow underrepresented parents a voice while providing schools with needed feedback from parents traditionally disengaged from school.
o Develop and facilitate events that are designed to bring families together for fun and sharing.
• Intern Supervision:
o Supervise graduate and undergraduate students each semester to help develop the community school model
• After School Programming:
o Support after school activities developed by school staff when appropriate.
o Coordinate and facilitate after school activities as needed maintaining records around consent, attendance, and academic progress.
• Programming:
o School Day – work collaboratively with school staff to support students by providing:
? Individual and group meetings with students.
? Managing a drop-in center for high school students.
? Facilitate academic support by connecting college interns to student needs.
o After School – Support after school activities:
? School lead activities as needed.
? Mentoring program.
o Summer – support and facilitate summer learning opportunities:
? Lead Summer Zone 2020
? Support recruitment for school and community summer learning opportunities.
• Administrative:
o Maintain records and data necessary for program evaluation.
o Supervise data collection from interns and volunteers.
