Mrs. Stanley's fourth-grade class created an amazing bulletin board featuring children's book author/poet Amy Ludwig VanDerwater's book, "Every Day Birds," to welcome her when she visited recently. The board is made entirely of recycled materials! The students then created an iMovie of their project, which VanDerwater featured on her blog and book webpage. See the iMovie.  Every Day Birds book webpage. [ for more]

Students in our 4th grade classes had some educational fun with a recent visit from the Blue Line Race Team. The classes had learned about "Matter, Motion and Machines," and students were able to apply new understandings to race cars and the sport of racing. They talked about the science of speed, forces, friction and energy, and looked at the cars to find examples of simple machines they have learned about. Fourth-graders Jacob Holocek, John McCall, Hunter Phillips and sixth-grader Zach McCall are members of this race team.  [ for more]

CEA third-graders recently took a trip to the river flats behind TRA to study the Tioghnioga River as part of their study of water. Students collected and analyzed water samples, and the data they gathered will be sent to the New York Geographic Alliance to be analyzed. The students had a great time and learned a lot about one of our local rivers.  And according to their data, the river is healthy! Many thanks to the parent volunteers who ran the stations and helped make the day a success! [ for more]
