On May 15, 2012, the Whitney Point Central School Board of Education appointed Patricia A. Follette as its new superintendent of schools. Ms. Follette is expected to assume her new role on July 1, 2012. She will replace Mary Hibbard who is retiring after serving as the district's superintendent for the past four years.

"Ms. Follette has had an outstanding career as a teacher, staff developer, and Director of Curriculum and Instruction. We believe that she has all of the skills necessary to continue moving our school district forward," said Whitney Point Board President, Sara Benscoter. Ms. Follette was chosen from among the 17 individuals who expressed interest in the superintendent's position. Five committees in Whitney Point were also instrumental in selecting Ms. Follette.

"Pat Follette impressed us as the type of individual who puts students first and who will provide exciting leadership for our academic programs," said Whitney Point Board Vice President, Stephanie Champney. "Her commitment to the students and families in the Whitney Point community has been exceptional," said Champney.

"I appreciate the confidence the Whitney Point Board of Education has shown in me. I have thoroughly enjoyed my work in Whitney Point. It is an excellent school district and a wonderful community. I look forward with great anticipation to leading the district and becoming even more involved with the Whitney Point community," said Ms. Follette.

Ms. Follette is currently the Director of Curriculum and Instruction in Whitney Point, a position she has held for the past four years. She served as the Supervisor of School Curriculum Improvement and Educational Leadership as well as a Reading Recovery Teacher Leader at Broome-Tioga BOCES. She also served as an elementary and Reading Recovery teacher in Union-Endicott from 1989-2000.

Ms. Follette received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Child Study from St. Joseph's College, her Masters Degree in Reading Education from Binghamton University, and a Certificate of Advanced Studies in School Administration and Supervision from SUNY Cortland. She is currently enrolled in the doctoral program at Binghamton University.

Alumni Organization and Planning Committee

The Whitney Point Alumni Planning and Organization Committee is now organizing and planning the Second Annual Alumni Banquet and Hall of Fame Recognition night.  The date for this year's event is Saturday, June 16^th, at 6 p.m., in the High School Cafeteria.  The theme for this year's banquet will be, "A Funny Thing Happened to Me in School." The Planning Committee is asking all alumni to think of some memorable story, no longer than three minutes, that expresses a funny event or episode that occurred in school, when they attended. The planning committee is hoping for many funny school stories! The cost of the dinner at the High School cafeteria is $20 per person for a very large buffet.

The next planning meetings are in the High School Library on May 21^st, June 11^th and a recap meeting to be announced.  New planning committee members will be welcomed!  All are welcome to attend and participate in any of the meetings.

Whitney Point Central School District is participating in a federally funded project called SHARE: Safe, Healthy Attitudes Require Education, collaboration among ten school districts in Broome County, BOCES, Binghamton University, and Lourdes Youth Services. 

So that SHARE can better understand the needs of our school district, Binghamton University's Center for Best Practices in Full Service Community Schools will be conducting a survey of all students in grades 5 through 12.  The evaluation team from Binghamton University, led by Dr. Michael Lawson, has expertise in this area and has done similar projects in Broome County. If you have questions about the survey, you can contact Dr. Michael Lawson at 607-777-9209.

The students will be completing the survey during regular classroom time and their teacher will remain in the room.  It should take about 20-25 minutes to complete.  The surveys are completely anonymous - your child's name will never be attached to any survey results.  All the information gathered from the surveys will be grouped by district and grade level.  The school district, the evaluators, and the SHARE team will use this information to develop the SHARE services.

The survey asks how students feel about being at their school.  There are questions about physical safety and emotional well-being.  For students in grades 7 through 12 there are questions about substance use.  The survey is designed to learn more about students' personal experiences and their observations and opinions about their school environment.  If you wish to review this survey a copy is available at the school's main office and/or will be posted on the district website.

The survey will be given out between May 21, 2012 and May 22, 2012.  Your child's input is valuable. Therefore, all children will be included unless their parent or guardian asks us to exclude them.

If you do not want your child(ren) to participate in the SHARE survey, simply sign and return the Refusal Form to your child's school by May 11, 2012.  Declining to participate in this survey will not affect your family's ability to access SHARE services.

We are excited about the services and supports that SHARE is offering.  Our district is building a legacy of success for our students that we believe will be enhanced by participating in SHARE.  We hope you agree!

Starting February 6, 2012, all transportation changes for students must be made in writing and received in the school office on or before 9:00 a.m. the day of the requested change.

The school offices are no longer able to accept phone calls or walk-ins requesting immediate bus changes.
