Dear Parent/Guardian:

I am writing to inform you of the procedures for mid-year exam testing that will take place during January 22-25, 2013.  Whitney Point High School will be following State Education guidelines to ensure the safety of our students, as well as the integrity of our local and state tests.  Regents & RCT examinations begin Tuesday, January 22, 2013 and continue through Friday, January 25, 2013.  Several scheduled midterms will also be taking place during this week.

All regularly scheduled classes will be held on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 and Wednesday, January 23, 2013.  Attendance on Thursday, January 24, 2013 and Friday morning, January 25, 2013 is only for those students taking a local exam, Regents or RCT exam.  An examination schedule is included with this letter.  Note:  Not all BOCES programs will be open.  We have included a BOCES schedule with this mailing and it is also available on our website (www.wpcsd.org).

Buses will be provided for students who are taking examinations.  Buses will run at the normal school day times.  Students needing to be transported home after their examinations will be able to ride buses at the regular dismissal time.  Transportation at mid-day will be available for those students taking a morning exam on Thursday, January 24, 2013, but not needing to take a Thursday afternoon exam.

During the day and a half examination only period (Thursday, January 24, 2013 and Friday, January 25, 2013 in the a.m.), all student handbook guidelines and rules will remain in place.  Specifically, the campus will remain closed and students will not be permitted to leave the building unless they have completed their exams for that day.  Students are not permitted to leave the building and then return to take a later examination.  Breakfast and lunch will be served as normal on Thursday, January 24, 2013.  Breakfast only will be available on Friday, January 25, 2013.  Once students complete their examinations, they will be allowed to leave, whether they walk, ride, drive, or ride a school bus home.  Students who have free time between examinations must wait in the cafeteria for their next examination. Once students leave the building, they will not be permitted to re-enter later in the day.  Entrance doors will be locked, except for the main entrance, after 8:30 a.m.

Students should only bring the materials they require to take the test or study (writing instruments, calculators, etc.). Due to the photographic capabilities of such devices, cellular phones, I-Pads, etc. will not be permitted in the examination areas.

Our school building will be secured throughout the exam period.  This will include daily monitoring and security checks.  With that in mind, student traffic in our building will be restricted to examination areas only during exams.  Any student wishing to see a teacher on Thursday, January 24, 2013 & Friday, January 25, 2013 will need to make prior arrangements with the teacher and the Main Office.

Please review this information with your student(s).  It is important that students follow all procedures.  Your support is always appreciated.

Sincerely,

Bruce Tytler Jeffrey Isaacs
