In 2002 Sarah and I left the United States to pursue our teaching careers overseas. We took teaching positions with the International School Yangon located in Yangon, Myanmar. Myanmar is located in southeast Asia and is bordered by India on the west and Thailand on the east. We have now entered our second year of teaching at ISY and love teaching in an international school. Out school uses an American curriculum and I am teaching fourth grade, while Sara is teaching third grade. My class has 18 students and is very diverse. I am teaching 3 Japanese, 3 Australian, 2 Indian (India not Native American), 1 Ukrainian, 2 Korean, 1 American, and 6 Burmese children. For the most part they are wonderful students who have a true love of learning and take their education very seriously. We will stay one more full school year and then return to the states to settle down. On October 5, 2003 Sarah and I had our first child in Bangkok, Thailand. We named her Ada (Long A, da) Elizabeth Roe. She is wonderful and her mother is doing well. She is the most precious thing in the world, and I am loving being a father. Life doesn't get much better than this. If anyone is interested in knowing more, you can email me at sarahandjake@mac.com or jacob@isy.net.mm. (Updated 11/3/03) |
