We continue to have so much to celebrate at Whitney Point
Central School District. The capital project is progressing at the High School
and CEA campus. We have received a lot of positive feedback on the safety and
efficiency of the parent drop-off and pick-up loops, in addition to many
comments on the additional parking and the overall improvement of the
appearance of the campus. New construction has started on the CEA UPK wing and
the two classrooms will be ready for next school year.
In response to input from the public, we made a concerted effort to continue to improve the athletic program, which included hiring an athletic trainer, continuing our search for quality coaches and maintaining and improving our fields. The results of these efforts were seen this fall as a number of our teams and students broke records and made it to the finals. It was amazing to see the varsity field hockey team once again win the Class C State Championship for the fourth year in a row! These individual and team achievements come with hard work, determination, and a lot of support from parents, teachers, and coaches. For more information about our teams’ successes, please visit our Whitney Point Central School District Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/whitneypointcsd/.
As we enter the New Year, our focus will begin to turn to
the 2018-2019 school budget. The Board of Education continues to be committed
to developing a budget that is sustainable, has a reasonable tax levy, and
maintains a focus on education. In addition to providing a quality education
for our students, the stewardship of our buildings and the safety of our
students remain a priority of the Board of Education. Please visit our website
for information regarding budget updates and public meetings http://www.wpcsd.org/.
As the possibility of severe winter weather becomes a
reality, it is important to put plans in place and let your child/children know
what will happen if there is a change in the regular school schedule. Our new
notification system that sends out automated voice and text messages to parents
and guardians has been very effective in providing timely information about
delays and closings. This system appears to be very reliable, but if you have a
question and have not received a message, please know that we still contact TV
and radio stations so they can broadcast current information. As always, I will
make every effort to notify everyone in advance of any changes, but there are
times when we are taken by surprise when the weather takes an unexpected turn.
I hope you will be able to attend one or more of our
holiday concerts and many classroom and school celebrations. It is always
heartwarming to see the community come together to celebrate with our students.
As always, I appreciate your continued support.
